BOOTHBAY HARBOR – Two women were shot to death Saturday and a Pittston man was arrested on murder charges in what police said was a case of domestic violence.
Homicide investigators said Jon Dilley, 51, killed his mother, Sarah Murray, 71, and his ex- or estranged wife, Chevelle “Chellie” Callaway, 41.
The shootings took place shortly after 8 a.m. when Dilley drove to Murray’s home on the McKown Point Road, said Stephen McCausland, state Public Safety Department spokesman. He had no information on what led up to the shootings.
Callaway’s body was found inside the house, and Murray’s was in the yard.
Callaway’s three children, ages 6, 9 and 18, were at the Murray home, and at least two of them ran to the Coast Guard station next door. The children were placed with relatives.
Neighbors called Boothbay Harbor police, and Dilley was arrested without incident. A semiautomatic handgun was used in the shootings, McCausland said.
A team of state police detectives and a mobile crime lab were sent to the scene.
Dilley was taken to the Lincoln County Jail and is expected to appear in Wiscasset District Court on Monday or Tuesday.
