No assault charges were levied in a Monday evening fight involving bats and knives near downtown Bangor, but a man standing near the scene was arrested for getting in the way of the investigation.
Bangor police Officers Chris Desmond and Paul Colley, along with Sgt. Al Hayden, responded at 5:19 p.m. to a call about a fight involving weapons at the intersection of Ohio and Court streets. While the officers were questioning the men involved in the incident, another man, Richard Sanders of Hermon, began talking to one of the men, according to police reports.
Sanders was told to move on, and he walked away and began to curse. He soon returned and was told he needed to leave immediately, the report said. He then said, “Yeah, thanks, and have a nice (expletive) day.”
Sanders was arrested for disorderly conduct and taken to the Penobscot County Jail. He was issued a summons for obstructing government administration.
The officers relieved the men involved in the fight of their weapons and enforced peace between them.
Bangor police Officer Dan Herrick arrested a Hermon man Sunday night for driving drunk.
Herrick stopped Michael Morin, 35, for speeding and crossing over the centerline of the road twice. Morin said he had not been drinking, but Herrick reported smelling alcohol on him.
Morin performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was arrested and taken to the Bangor Police Department for a breathalyzer test. His blood alcohol content tested over the legal limit.
Morin was summoned for operating while under the influence and then released from the station.
