OLD TOWN – The council voted on Monday to enter into a contract with Bangor Savings Bank to lease office space for temporary City Hall headquarters at $2,700 a month for two years, according to Joe Schlick, finance director and acting city manager.
After the first two years, the council will be given the option to extend the lease for another two years at $2,750 per month.
Public safety services, including Old Town police, fire and ambulance, soon will be expanding into City Hall, and municipal offices likely need to relocate by Dec. 1.
The Bangor Savings Bank site on North Main Street already is compliant with the Americans With Disabilities Act and has 2,724 square feet of open office space, but some work needs to be done before municipal offices can move in, Schlick said.
The second-floor space needs to be painted, ceilings and lighting need to be installed and flooring needs to be put down. The bank also has agreed to create a permanent office space for the city manager and a break room for employees.
Bank officials anticipate the construction will take at least 60 days, and city officials plan to begin moving in sometime in November, Schlick said.
City officials anticipate needing temporary space for two to five years while exploring building or renovation options for a new City Hall.
