Legal training course

The National Association of Legal Secretaries of Northeast Maine will sponsor the NALS Legal Training Course 6-9 p.m. beginning Sept. 13 and running through Dec. 6 at Husson College.

Classes will be taught by attorneys, judges, certified legal secretaries and others with expertise in a particular field. All classes will focus on what is expected of a legal professional.

Participants meeting certain requirements will receive a certificate from NALS, the association for legal professionals. They also will have the option of sitting for an ALS certification exam.

Early bird registration ends Aug. 30.

Furniture store expansion

Chez Renee Home Furnishings, a retailer featuring fashions in furniture, lighting and accessories, plans to relocate to Penobscot Plaza, 83 Washington St., downtown Bangor.

The opening at the new location is set for Oct. 1.

The new store will feature two floors and more than 15,000 square feet of showroom space – more than three times the store’s existing 4,500 square feet.

Along with current product lines and offerings, Chez Renee’s new location will feature expanded galleries for lighting, mattresses and leather. A child-friendly zone and a “no shopping” zone, featuring a big-screen TV and comfortable recliners, are being integrated into the floor plan to help enhance the shopping experience for all members of the family.

Construction is currently under way at the new location, said owner Renee Hudgens. Even though the sign is down at the existing store at 930 Stillwater Ave., staff invite all to come and shop for in-store savings during the move.

Business ownership class

Penquis Community Action Program will hold a Business Ownership 101 class 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Penquis CAP, 262 Harlow St. The class will provide an overview of the pros and cons of operating a small business, what a business plan is and why it is needed, and resources for business development assistance.

Book and Bible store

Lamb’s Book and Bible has purchased the former Asian Palace restaurant building and will move from its current location of 118 Harlow St. to 877 Stillwater Ave.

According to general manager John Nickerson, the 5,600 square feet of space will be completely overhauled after the restaurant equipment is liquidated on Aug. 26.

The bookstore has been operating on Harlow Street for 12 years, offering religious greeting cards, gift items and assorted church supplies and books.
