HOULTON – Nate Carter was credited with three goals, one on an own goal kicked in by Houlton, to lead Presque Isle to a season-opening 7-2 schoolboy soccer victory over the host Shiretowners on Wednesday.
Sean Daigle added two goals for the Wildcats, while Robert Gartley and Sam Mathers added a goal apiece.
Chris Howland and Ryan Brewer each scored for 0-2-1 Houlton.
Presque Isle goalie Brad Baker made eight saves on 10 shots, while Presque Isle’s Eben Thompson made 27 saves on 33 shots.
Fort Kent 1, Van Buren 0
At Fort Kent, Steve Rossignol scored on an assist from Derek Bonenfant with less than two minutes to play as the Warriors opened with a victory.
Fort Kent goalie Derek Plourde stopped all 10 shots he faced to earn the shutout, while Dustin Cyr stopped 21 of 22 shots for 3-1 Van Buren.
CAHS 5, Fort Fairfield 1
At Fort Fairfield, Eric Smith, Erick Martinez and Ryan Kilcollins scored goals during a 5:32 span late in the first half to lift Central Aroostook past the host Tigers.
Brock Burtt and Jason Woodward added goals for the 4-1 Panthers, while Jake Delano had three assists and Martinez added one assist.
Matt Oakes scored an unassisted goal for 1-2 Fort Fairfield.
Central Aroostook goalie John Boyd made six saves on 13 shots, while Billy Scull made 12 stops on 23 shots for Fort Fairfield.
Washburn 3, Easton 0
At Washburn, senior Jason Thompson saved five shots out of the six he faced, posting his 17th career shutout and setting the school record for most career shutouts for the Beavers.
Issac Carney added two goals and an assist for 5-0 Washburn. Nathan Doody also had a goal and Jason Thompson had an assist.
Jeremy Brock saw 28 shots and saved 19 for the 2-2 Bears.
Madawaska 6, Limestone 1
At Limestone, Myles Morneault led the Owls with three goals.
Paul Michaud contributed two more and Paul Roy had the final goal. Arnold Michael faced six shots for Madawaska and saved five.
Tom Chartrand scored the lone goal for Limestone/Maine School of Science and Mathematics and Addison Rossignol made 16 saves on 38 shots.
Katahdin 6, Hodgdon 1
At Stacyville, Alex McAvoy netted two goals as the Cougars won their season opener.
Pat Willet, Casey Savage, Dylan Harris and Tom Anderson each had goal. Harris also assisted a goal, while Burton Brayall stopped three of the four shots he faced.
Seth Dorr scored the 0-4 Shiretowners’ goal and Jordan Quint made 15 saves on 22 shots.
Girls soccer
Limestone 2, Madawaska 1
At Limestone, Lindsay Beaulieu scored off an assist from Lee Ann Kelley to break the 1-1 tie in overtime in favor of the Eagles.
Ellie Dunn had the first goal for Limestone/Maine School of Science and Mathematics, with an assist from Crystal Silva, while Melanie Allen saw 10 shots and saved nine.
Elizabeth LaPlante scored the Owls’ goal and Erin Pelletier saved eight of 10 shots.
Presque Isle 2, Houlton 0
At Houlton, Nichole James and Natasha Deschene both scored unassisted goals as the Wildcats took a victory.
Brianna Young stopped all three shots she faced for 1-0 Presque Isle.
Nicole Manton saved 15 of 17 shots for the 1-2 Shiretowners.
Hodgdon 6, Katahdin 0
At Staceyville, Brianne McGary scored three goals to propel Hodgdon past host Katahdin.
Andrea Blanchette added two goals and Misty Wing one goal for the 3-1 Hawks, who led 3-0 at intermission.
Casey Nightengale earned the shutout in goal, making four saves on six Katahdin shots.
Clarissa Gallagher and Kayla Stevens combined to make 19 saves on 25 shots for 0-1 Katahdin.
Fort Kent 2, Van Buren 0
At Fort Kent, first-half goals by Lindsay Cyr and Sarah Pinette lifted unbeaten Fort Kent to victory.
Pinette also had an assist for the 3-0 Warriors, while goalie Mindy Morneault made six saves on 10 shots.
Lisa Levasseur made 12 saves on 20 shots for 1-3 Van Buren.
Fort Fairfield 2, Cen. Aroostook 2
At Fort Fairfield, Brittany Collins scored unassisted second-half goals at the 12- and 18-minute marks of the second half, helping the Panthers rally from a 2-0 deficit to tie the Tigers.
Rachel Graves made 10 saves on 19 shots for 1-3-1 Central Aroostook of Mars Hill.
Hilary McNamee scored both goals for 2-1-1 Fort Fairfield in the first half. Brittany McLaughlin assisted on one of the tallies. Keegan O’Neal made three saves on seven shots.
Lee 12, So. Aroostook 0
At Lee, Shelby Pickering, Jodi Worcester, and Karen Hird knocked in two goals apiece as the Pandas came away with a win.
Pickering also contributed four assists. Kimmy Thurlow, Aarika Ritchie, Amanda Gifford, Marci Moors, Michaela Ham and Kerri Harris each added one goal. Jackie Moors and Pickering combined for six saves on seven shots for 1-0 Lee Academy.
Erin Coswell saw 29 shots and saved 17 for the 1-1 Warriors.
