Bangor man accused in series of car burglaries

A series of car burglaries resulted in the arrest of a Bangor man on Thursday.

Officer Douglas Moore of the Bangor Police Department went to the scene of an alleged motor vehicle burglary Monday at Penquis CAP on Harlow Street. Moore talked to an employee of Penquis CAP who said he saw a man he knew break into a co-worker’s car.

When the employee approached the man, he could see the man hiding something underneath his T-shirt, reports said. The employee told the man to lift up his T-shirt, which the man did, revealing a black baseball cap tucked into his pants, according to the employee’s statement. The man then got into a taxi and left. The employee said the man’s name was David Ring, 32, of Bangor.

The owner of the car said she had a black Adidas baseball cap taken from her vehicle, as well as some paperwork.

On Thursday, Officer Michael Brennan was dispatched to a motor vehicle burglary on Union Street. Moore heard over the police scanner that Brennan was looking for David Ring.

Shortly after the Union Street burglary was reported, Moore went to Ring’s apartment on Union Street. Moore asked him about the burglaries, to which Ring responded that he knew nothing of any burglaries.

At that time Brennan arrived on the scene. Brennan read Ring his Miranda rights and placed him under arrest.

Reports said the officers found several CD cases and a CD in Ring’s front sweat shirt pocket. One of the CD cases had blood on it, reports said. Brennan then pointed out that Officer Tyler Leighton was investigating a series of burglaries to motor vehicles on Columbia Street. One of the cars had a broken window, and blood on the interior. According to reports, Ring also had blood on his pants.

Ring was charged with burglary to a motor vehicle and theft. He was brought to Penobscot County Jail.
