Red Sox to kick off kids book program

PORTLAND – The Jeremiah Cromwell Disabilities Center of Portland plans to announce a charitable partnership with the Boston Red Sox Foundation during ceremonies at Sunday’s Maine Day baseball game at Fenway Park.

Hundreds of Mainers, including former U.S. Sen. George Mitchell, Gov. John Baldacci, and philanthropist Harold Alfond are expected to be on hand to witness the announcement, in which a 10-book collection for children with special needs will be donated to more than 400 libraries in Massachusetts.

The Cromwell Center is a nonprofit corporation that produces programs that benefit families of children with disabilities and foster greater acceptance of children and adults with disabilities in educational, social and professional settings.

The Red Sox Foundation helps charities around New England and will help pay for the book program.
