ORONO – Marie Andree Canuel scored four goals to lead the University of Maine to a 5-0 women’s soccer victory over Providence on Sunday to cap off the Black Bear Invitational tournament.

Canuel scored two goals less than two minutes apart early in the first half to give Maine a 2-0 halftime lead. Heather Hathorn scored her 19th career goal 14:08 into the second half, leaving her one goal shy of tying the Maine record for career goals. Canuel scored on a Hathorn assist four minutes later, then tied Hathorn’s UM record for goals in a game when she scored off an Allison Kelly corner kick late in the second half.

Jasmine Phillips made one save in goal for 2-0 Maine, which outshot Providence 30-5. Laura Elfers and Ashley Fedyshyn combined on 12 saves for 1-1 Providence.

In Sunday’s first game, Sacred Heart defeated Marist 2-1.
