Elect GOP majority

Earl G. Sherwood’s letter, “GOP leadership lacking” (BDN, Aug. 25), denouncing Republican Party leadership for stalling issuance of a new bond issue for the November election, is an insult to all Maine taxpayers.

The Republicans have done the responsible thing and put the brakes on the Democratic Party spending machine which has been operating in overdrive in Augusta for years. It has been the Democratic majority that has chronically spent more than we have taken in tax revenue, lost more than $100 million in poor administration of the Department of Health and Human Services, increased the cost of the Food Stamp program due to administrative incompetence, and failed to fund and appoint members to a legislative financial oversight committee years ago which may have helped keep us out of the financial mess we now have to endure.

I hope the people of Maine see the necessity of regime change in Augusta this November by electing a Republican majority to lead us out of our current fiscal disaster. We don’t need more debt.
