A man was arrested Saturday night in Old Town after he led police officers on a high-speed chase all over the city for several minutes.

Daniel Turner, 22, of LaGrange was riding a motorcycle on Gilman Falls Avenue when Old Town police Officer Marc Egan saw him raise his front tire and speed off, Sgt. Mike Hashey said Sunday.

Egan ran the motorcycle’s registration number and learned it had expired in June 2001. The license plate, however, had stickers that read September 2004, Hashey said.

The officer pursued the motorcycle and eventually stopped Turner on Stillwater Avenue. When Egan got out of his cruiser to speak with Turner, the motorcycle sped off toward the Interstate, Hashey said.

Egan followed Turner, who traveled at speeds as high as 70 miles per hour in a 25-mph zone, the sergeant said. When Turner reached the YMCA parking lot, he turned around on someone’s lawn and sped off back in the opposite direction.

Hashey said Turner then made turns down several side streets, trying to evade Egan. By this time, Officer Michael Holmes was waiting for Turner in another cruiser on Brunswick Street, but Turner eluded Holmes as well and made his way to Route 16, climbing to speeds as high as 95 mph, Hashey said.

Maine State Police Trooper Josh D’Angelo was called in to assist, but Old Town police finally corralled Turner on Route 16, Hashey said.

Turner was arrested and charged with attempting to elude an officer, speeding in excess of 30 mph, failure to register a vehicle and operating without a license.

Hashey also said the district attorney’s office could assess further charges against Turner for attaching false plates.

A woman was treated and released Sunday morning from Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield for a bite on her nose that required six stitches.

According to Sgt. Sanger Davis of the Newport Police Department, the woman was part of a group of unwelcome guests that refused to leave a party.

The officer said another woman, Gabriel Wallace, 28, of Garland slammed the victim’s head into the ground and apparently bit her.

Davis said he didn’t know exactly why the altercation occurred, but he suspected that there was some “past history” involved.

Davis interviewed Wallace Sunday evening at the Newport police station, he said. Wallace admitted to fighting with the other woman, and she was charged with assault.
