Old Town native and former University of Maine tight end Chad Hayes was released by the Cincinnati Bengals Monday.

The Bengals signed Hayes to a two-year contract in June. Cincinnati is the third NFL team to waive Hayes. He was signed as a free agent by Kansas City after graduating from Maine in 2002, but was waived at the end of training camp. The Tennessee Titans signed Hayes in 2003, but they also waived him.

Hayes caught 81 passes for 1,011 yards and 11 TDs during his career at Maine. He has played for the Frankfurt Galaxy and Berlin Thunder in the NFL Europe.
