A Bangor mental health agency was evacuated Monday afternoon after a bomb threat was discovered scrawled on a women’s bathroom stall.
The message found in a second-floor bathroom at Community Health and Counseling Services read: “There is a bomb in the third floor. It will go off at 3 p.m. on 08/30/04,” according to reports.
Police found no evidence of a bomb during a 2 p.m. search of the second and third floors of the Cedar Street building, according to police reports.
CHCS administrators decided to evacuate the building as a precaution, and employees returned to the building at 3:15 p.m.
No one has been charged in connection with the incident.
A Hermon man was bitten by a police dog Sunday after he jumped over a fence at the home of a Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department employee.
Bangor police Officer Michael Jewett was traveling on Union Street in Hermon at 9 p.m. when a vehicle in front of his cruiser began operating erratically, according to police reports.
The car pulled into a driveway off Billings Road and Jewett recognized the driver as Kenneth R. Pearson, 41, of Hermon. Pearson told Jewett he lived at that address, though Jewett knew the home belonged to a civil deputy with the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department.
Pearson appeared intoxicated and smelled of alcohol, according to reports.
As Jewett spoke to dispatchers in his cruiser, Pearson began to climb over a nearby fence, according to reports. Jewett attempted to pull Pearson off the fence after learning that Pearson had operated his vehicle while under suspension.
Pearson escaped while being told he was under arrest, and Jewett called in his canine, Rex, which was inside the cruiser.
Rex located Pearson lying on the ground inside a raspberry thicket, and Jewett told the man not to move or the dog would bite, according to reports. Pearson kicked his leg toward the dog and was bitten on the calf.
The dog released Pearson’s leg upon command and the man continued to resist arrest by assisting Officer James Hassard, according to reports.
Pearson was later taken into custody and his blood alcohol level registered at 0.10 percent, according to reports.
Pearson was charged with operating under the influence, operating after suspension, refusing to submit to arrest and for having illegally attached license plates.
A Hampden man was hospitalized Monday night after he caught fire while attempting to light a bonfire at Crestwood Trailer Park.
Evan Gray, 19, was burned as he poured gasoline onto the fire at 7:50 p.m., according to Sgt. Scott Webber of the Hampden Police Department. Gray dropped the container, and some of the gasoline splashed onto his legs and ignited, causing second-degree burns on his legs and at least first-degree burns on his upper torso, Webber said.
“He was in quite a bit of pain,” Webber said. “He really did a number on himself.”
Gray was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor. Hospital officials had no information on his condition Monday night.
