Albion man impaled in logging accident

LIBERTY – An Albion logger remained in critical condition Tuesday after being impaled by an oak branch while cutting trees in Waldo County.

Allen N. Shores, 47, of Shores Logging Co. was working Monday in woods off the Lampson Road when a branch fell and impaled him in the chest.

The accident occurred shortly before 1 p.m. and was reported by a fellow logger, according to Waldo County Chief Deputy Bob Keating.

“He’s in critical condition but it looks like he’ll survive,” Keating said Tuesday.

Keating said Shores was taken by ambulance to Waldo County General Hospital, where he was stabilized. He then was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

Keating said Shores was already on his way to the hospital by the time investigating officer Merl Reed arrived.

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Maine Forest Service were notified of the accident.
