Carter powers ‘Cats Presque Isle tips rival Caribou

PRESQUE ISLE – Nate Carter recorded two goals and an assist as the Presque Isle boys soccer team earned a 4-0 victory over rival Caribou Tuesday night in high school action.

Sean Daigle and Josh Gonsorioski chipped in with one goal apiece and Brad Baker stopped all six Viking shots for 3-0 Presque Isle.

Brad Ala made 12 saves on 16 shots for 2-1 Caribou.

Lee 2, Southern Aroostook 0

At Dyer Brook, Jake Kang and Rick Kim each had an unassisted second-half goal to lift the Pandas to a 2-0 victory over the Warriors.

Kris King made 12 saves on 13 shots to earn the shutout for 1-1 Lee. Jeff Boutilier made 22 saves on 24 shots for 3-1 Southern Aroostook.

Ashland 0, Easton 0 (2OT)

At Ashland, neither the Hornets nor the Bears could break through against stellar goalkeeping as the teams played to a scoreless tie in double overtime.

Jeremy Brock had 19 saves on 49 shots for 3-3-1 Easton while Kevin Baker stopped all nine shots he faced for 1-1-1 Ashland.

Washburn 2, Van Buren 0

At Washburn, Wade Snyder tallied a goal and an assist as the Beavers blanked the Crusaders.

Snyder scored 30 seconds into the second half for 6-0-1 Washburn. Josh Goupille assisted on the goal. Isaac Carney added an insurance score with six minutes left and Jason Thompson stopped all 16 shots he faced.

Dustin Cyr had eight saves on 11 shots for 4-2 Van Buren.

Girls soccer

Presque Isle 3, Fort Kent 1

At Fort Kent, Rachel Blackstone, Katie DeLong and Sarah Gonsorioski each tallied an unassisted goal to power the Wildcats.

Brianna Young made three saves on five shots for 2-0 Presque Isle.

Sarah Pinette netted the 3-1 Warriors lone goal, while Mindy Morneault stopped 21 of 26 shots.

Van Buren 4, Washburn 1

At Washburn, Megan Lajoie racked up four goals as the Crusaders rolled over the Beavers.

Lajoie scored the only goal of the first half on a penalty kick, but Washburn’s Erica McDougall tied the game early in the second half with a penalty-kick goal.

Lajoie then scored three straight goals for Van Buren, two unassisted and the third on an assist from Kayla Ayotte.

Lisa Levasseur made four saves on 12 shots for 2-1-3 Van Buren. Amber Palmer made seven saves on 17 stops for 4-2 Washburn.

Ashland 5, Easton 0

At Ashland, Caitlin Sherman netted two goals thanks to two assists from Whitney Flint, as the Hornets shut down the Bears.

Danielle Long chipped in with a goal and an assist for 3-0 Ashland. Ashlee Peters and Beth Chamberlain each scored once. Jessica Bernhardt had an assist, while Ashley Nemer saved all five Easton shots.

Briana White made 28 saves on 33 shots for the 0-6 Bears.

Madawaska 6, Wisdom 2

At Madawaska, Anna Cannan and Kelly Chasse each knocked in two goals as the Owls earned the win.

Jamie Nadeau and Liz Clavette added a goal apiece, while Ashley Cyr made two assists. Liz Laplante saved nine of 11 shots for 3-1 Madawaska.

Nicole St. Pierre scored both goals for the 2-5 Pioneers of St. Agatha. Kayla Daigle made 31 saves on 22 shots.
