BANGOR – A former Holden elementary school teacher and foster parent has pleaded guilty to charges of distributing child pornography.
Christopher Reardon, 34, now of Houlton, entered his plea on Monday in U.S. District Court in Bangor. He faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
He was taken into custody and will be sentenced after the court completes its presentence investigation, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Court documents show that charges were brought against Reardon after he used computers in his Holden residence to transmit images of child pornography to a police officer in New Hampshire who was posing as a 14-year-old boy.
At the time of the transmissions, Reardon was a foster parent and an elementary school teacher in Holden.
After learning of the transmissions, agents from Immigration and Customs and Enforcement executed a search warrant at Reardon’s home, seizing three personal computers and other evidence.
“Those who transport child pornography over the Internet cannot hide in the anonymity of cyberspace,” Robin M. Avers, special agent in charge, ICE New England, was quoted as saying. “We are committed to identifying and apprehending these individuals.”
U.S. Attorney Paula Silsby praised the investigative efforts of the ICE agents and Holden Police Department.
