AUGUSTA – The Public Utilities Commission is fining a telecommunications company $750,000 and revoking its license to operate in Maine following slamming complaints.

The PUC said Tuesday that Business Options Inc., headquartered in Merrillville, Ind., is responsible for nearly 200 unauthorized changes of Maine consumers’ in-state toll service in 2002.

An investigation concluded that BOI used deceptive practices to persuade Maine consumers to consent to changes in their in-state toll carriers.

There is no phone listing for Business Options in the Merrillville, Ind., area. The PUC says Business Options did not contest the commission’s findings.
