ROCKLAND – A head-on collision on Route 17 Wednesday night apparently caused no serious injury to three people.

Abigail Greiner, 18, of Spruce Head was driving east on Route 17 when she crossed the center line while attempting to make a gradual left turn into Johnson Memorial Park at Chickawaukie Lake, Deputy Police Chief Wallace Tower said Thursday.

Greiner said the accelerator on her 1986 Chevrolet sedan did not respond, and her car slowed as she was turning into the park at 9:30 p.m.

Grenier’s car was hit head-on by a 1986 Toyota driven by Richard Lappanen, 29, of Union, according to Tower. James Ray, 24, no address given, was a passenger in Lappanen’s vehicle.

Both drivers and the passenger, all of whom wore seat belts, were treated at the scene by Rockland emergency medical personnel, Tower said.

He did not know if any were taken to the hospital.

Both vehicles sustained $5,000 in damage, Tower said, and there were no charges.
