It’s a fine thing when musicians unite under the banner of a worthy social cause. I know, as the proud owner of a Betamax copy of “We Are the World.” OK, perhaps not the best (or coolest) of examples, but the project’s mission of ending famine in struggling countries was – and continues to be – one of the worthiest causes.
Seriously though, on Friday, Sept. 17, a collection of local blues performers, including the Nightcrawlers, The England Brothers, Dave Mello and Eric Green, will give a benefit concert, “Blues for the Cure.” Music will start at 8 p.m. and will run until midnight at Jeff’s Catering in Brewer, and all of the night’s proceeds will benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation’s Maine affiliate.
It’s an easy way to contribute to combating breast cancer. Just make a small donation ($6), show up, and groove to an eclectic array of blues styles, ranging from smooth and mellow to down and gritty. And, unlike some other Friday nights spent soaking in the blues, you can wake up the next morning feeling good and know you’ve done the right thing.
Tickets will be sold in advance and at the door. For ticket information, call 941-7176, ext. 1092, or e-mail pattens@nescom.edu. For more about the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, log onto www.komenmaine.com. For more about the Nightcrawlers, log onto www.nightcrawlerstudios.com. And finally, Rockin’/Out alum Eric Green has a new Web site up and running at www.swampsound.com.
