Crushed rock that spilled from a dump truck in Old Town Thursday damaged at least six cars along Route 16.
Cracked windshields, dented hoods and other damage was reported by drivers traveling behind Eugene Wasson, 44, of Costigan, after his truck’s tailgate unhitched, according to Officer Seth Burnes. No one was injured.
For nearly an hour, Route 15 was closed from the Interstate-95 overpass to the junction with Route 43, Burnes said. The road reopened at 4 p.m., 21/2 hours after the first report of damage.
Wasson told police he didn’t know the rock was spilling from his truck. He was issued a traffic citation for having an unsecured load, Burnes said.

Betters followed the swerving motorcycle to Hammond Street, where Dunlap accelerated to 39 mph in a 25-mph zone.
Dunlap was stopped on Fourth Street at 12:15 a.m. and said he wasn’t used to having a passenger on the motorcycle, according to reports. After failing field sobriety tests, Dunlap said he had consumed seven drinks over a 4-hour period.
His blood alcohol content later registered at .15 percent, and Dunlap was issued a criminal summons for operating under the influence, according to reports.

Richard Regan, 43, of Reading, Mass., smelled of alcohol when his 2004 Audi was pulled over on the Odlin Road in Bangor at 12:33 a.m., according to police reports.
Regan denied having had anything to drink and was asked to recite the alphabet as part of field sobriety testing. He said “abcdefghijkxyz,” and then recognized his error and laughed, according to reports.
Regan then said he had consumed three drinks and failed further sobriety tests.
He was arrested for operating under the influence, and on the way to jail asked police to forget the arrest and bring him back to his hotel, according to reports. His blood alcohol content later registered at .21 percent.
