DEXTER – The Nokomis of Newport field hockey team earned a 3-2 victory over Dexter Friday afternoon, ending the Tigers’ winning streak at 62 games and upending the four-time defending Class C state championships.
The streak was four games shy of setting a national high school record for consecutive wins, Dexter athletic director Steve Bell said recently.
Michelle Barden scored on a penalty stroke and had two assists for the Warriors of Newport as high schools around the state opened the fall season.
Sarah Bradstreet’s goal tied the game for Nokomis. Devon Carrol chipped in with a goal and Kristen Gould saved 10 of 22 shots.
Meagan Fogarty scored both goals for the 0-1 Tigers and Kristina Temple had an assist. Katie Poirer made eight saves on 14 shots
Belfast 8, Oak Hill 0
At Belfast, Britt Cummings netted two goals and an assist, while Jillian Ross had one goal and two assist as the Lions beat out Oak Hill in their opening game.
Jamie Flagg, Carrie Hart, Britt Reed, Heather Read and Nicole Hubbard made a goal apiece. Liz Anderson stopped the one shot she faced.
Frankie Curtis saw 23 shots and saved 15.
Orono 4, Bangor 0
At Bangor, Emily Sypher and Megan Kachey each hit in two goals in the Red Riots opening game win.
Ana Blagojevic saved all nine shots she faced.
Sarah Frisk and Sarah Hanselman combined for 12 saves on 22 shots for the 0-1 Rams.

At Lincoln, Heather Gulesian netted two goals, including the game-winning goal for the Lynx in sudden-death overtime.
Gulesian’s first goal was assisted by Shannon Pietras, the second by Michelle Paul. Melanie Markie and Sarah French combined to made six saves on 10 shots for 1-0 Mattanawcook.
Mackie Davis scored unassisted for the 0-1 Red Devils in the middle of the second half to tie up the game. Tiffany Tilton saved six of the eight shots she saw.

Foxcroft 7, Old Town 0
At Dover-Foxcroft, Tamlyn Fredrick led the Ponies with four goals and three assists.
Rolinda Michell, Amanda MacPheters and Tylie Polyot added a goal each. Ashley Smith made three saves on six shots for 1-0 Foxcroft.
Carey Littlefield faced 29 shots, stopping 19 for the 0-1 Indians.

Hampden 3, Bangor 2
At Bangor, Keith Zanardi scored the game-winning goal on a Billy Shannon assist with 1:58 left to lead Hampden to the victory.
Martin Earley had a goal and an assist for 1-0 Hampden and Jeff Prymowicz netted a goal. Max Silver blocked four of six attempts.
Dylan George scored two goals on penalty kicks for 0-1 Bangor. Austin Smith made 18 saves on 21 shots.

Ellsworth 1, Hermon 0
At Hermon, Jensen Rich netted the game-winning goal on a Demetrios Katsiaficas assist only 21 seconds into the game to give Ellsworth the victory.
Cory Smith stopped all 13 shots for 1-0 Ellsworth.
Corey Stanhope blocked nine of 10 shots for Hermon.

At Stacyville, Ignacio Bustos scored on an Aaron Smith assist with 10:36 left in the second half to tie the game for Bangor Christian.

O’Neil Qualey scored an unassisted goal with 19:36 left in the second half for 2-0-1 Katahdin and Burton Brayall stopped 14 of 17 attempts.

At Mount Desert Island, Jordan Merchant scored on a Willy Ramano assist in the first half to help Mount Desert Island past John Bapst.
Maniel Hilliard netted a goal on a Merchant assist in the second half for the 1-0 Trojans. Dan Lyons and Max Blanford combined to block six of nine shots.
Conor Campbell made seven saves on 12 shots for 0-1 John Bapst of Bangor.

At East Millinocket, Nick Hockridge scored the game-tying goal 17 minutes into the first half for Penobscot Valley of Howland.
Jake Crosby netted an unassisted goal at 12 minutes into the first half for 0-0-1 Penobscot Valley and Josh Ireland made 12 saves on 22 shots.
Aaron Waite scored a goal and assisted another for 0-0-1 Schenck. Will Hamlin netted a goal and Kerry Thompson had an assist. Lanny Thompson stopped 11 of 17 attempts.

Hampden 4, Bangor 1
At Hampden, Kim Stephenson scored two goals to lead Hampden past Bangor.
Hannah Growe and Lili Berube each netted a goal for 1-0 Hampden. Becca Workman stopped five of six shots.
Serena Dubois scored an unassisted goal for 0-1 Bangor. Ilyse Angst made eight saves on 26 shots.

At Greenville, Stephanie O’Brien scored the game-winning goal four minutes into the second half to give Richmond the win.
Alisha Barter scored a first half goal for 1-0 Richmond and Celia Carlton made 10 saves on 13 shots.
Hannah Breton scored on a Rica Breton assist in the first half for 0-1 Greenville. Beth Bartley stopped 14 of 18 shots.

At Stacyville, Amber Leathers scored three goals and made an assist for the Patriots.
Adrienne Ricci shot in another two, while Christen Pelletier had a goal and an assist. For 1-0 Bangor Christian, Johannah Kutz saved ten of the 16 shots she faced.
Michelle Martin and Ronni Robinson both contributed a goal for the 0-3 Cougars. Kayla Stevens made seven saves on 18 shots.

At East Millinocket, Nicole Crocker scored with an assist from Gabrielle Rioux to break a 1-1 tie in favor of the Wolverines.
Courtney McLaughlin had the opening goal for 1-0 Schenck and Tricia Hobbs stopped eight of nine Dexter shots.
Jana Kenney tied the game for the 1-0 Tigers with her goal in the first half. Lindsey Burton made four saves on 8 shots.

At Bangor, Molly Jones scored the game-winning goal on a Hayley Cutri assist eight minutes into the game to give John Bapst the win.
Caroline Caffling blocked all seven attempts for 1-0 John Bapst.
Asia Ross made 18 saves on 19 shots for 0-1 Mount Desert Island.

At Washburn, Whitney Flint notched two goals and an assist as the Hornets had their fifth straight win.
Ashlee Peters also scored a goal and made an assist for 5-0 Ashland. Ashley Nemer made four saves on 12 shots.
Amber Palmer faced 12 shots for the 5-3 Beavers, stopping 5.
Van Buren 4, Fort Fairfield 2
At Fort Fairfield, Megan Lajoie notched three goals in the Crusaders win.
Taylor Parent also had a goal. Lisa Levasseur saw 18 shots and saved 11 for 3-3-1 Van Buren.
Sadie Ayoob and Hillary McNamee each scored for the 4-2-1 Tigers, while Kaylee Searles had an assist. Kellie Osgood and Keegan O’Neal combined for four saves on 14 shots.
