At noon Sunday, Sept. 12, members of the United Christian Church, 18 Searsmont Road, will treat themselves to some ice cream, then break ground for an addition to their church, built in 1821. Margaretta Thurlow, great-granddaughter of the church’s builder, will turn the first shovel of soil. Pastor Susan Stonestreet will lead the day’s events. The addition will include a handicap entrance, a meeting room and a restroom. The church also is starting, on the second Sunday of each month, a family worship service from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. that Stonestreet will lead, assisted by the congregation’s teenagers. Call 763-4526.
