READFIELD – Nick Tymozcko ran 142 yards on 12 carries and scored two touchdowns to power the Bucksport Golden Bucks to a 62-6 opening victory over the Maranacook Black Bears in high school football action Saturday.

John Harvey rushed six times for 80 yards with two touchdowns for the Golden Bucks and Joey Carmichael completed four of nine passes for 90 yards, including a touchdown pass. Shane Sullivan caught two passes for 66 yards with a touchdown.

Sean Putnam-Labbe recovered a fumble and ran 44 yards to the end zone for Maranacook.

Cheverus opens with win

Quarterback Matt O’Donnell rushed for 149 yards on six carries and added another 87 yards by completing 7 of 13 passes to carry Bonny Eagle of West Buxton by Cheverus of Portland Saturday in Class A action.

In other games, Thornton Academy of Saco defeated Massabesic of Waterboro 35-6 and Boothbay Region beat Cape Elizabeth 39-12.

Next weekend’s second week of high school football features some interesting early matchups such as Cheverus at Bangor, Brewer at Hampden, Bucksport at Rockland, and Foxcroft Academy at Orono.

Hermon 12, Hudson 6

At Hudson, Brandon Look threw two touchdown passes to Brent Dority to lead Hermon to the win in the Moosehead Trail Football League.

Dan Smith ran five yards to score for Hudson in the fourth quarter. Tyler Mitchell had nine tackles and Scott Connolly had four sacks.

Hermon’s Cole Spencer had 10 tackles.

At Hartland, three different players scored a touchdown apiece as Unity held off Hartland in the Moosehead Trail League.

Justin Serrano had a five-yard TD run, Kyle Harvey peeled off a 53-yard scoring run and Eric Eddy caught a 15-yard pass from Edwin Santana. Nick Cronin tallied six tackles.

Chris Savajeau led Hartland with a 70-yard touchdown run and another score thanks to a 35-yard pass from Brian Kelso.
