LEVANT – A large riding horse was caught Sunday evening after it was found galloping down Union Street near the town office before a pastor at a nearby church helped apprehend the equine.
Deputy Joshua Tibbetts of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department said he didn’t know where the horse broke loose from, but he was contacting farm owners Sunday night.
The animal had an abrasion on its rear quarter, the deputy said, adding that it could have been caused by the horse getting caught on a fence.
No one was harmed and traffic on Main Street was not affected, Tibbetts said, though several residents reported spotting the horse.
The animal was caught shortly after 6 p.m. and was being held at a local residence where the owner had a barn for the horse to stay in.
