Peters, Seahawks hold off Husson Eagles’ Pretniss runs for two scores

NEWPORT, R.I. – Sean Peters rushed for 131 yards on 19 carries and a pair of touchdowns while former Portland High star Carl Frye added 83 yards on 16 attempts to help Slave Regina University hold off Husson College of Bangor 35-28 in Division III football action Saturday.

The game was topsy-turvy throughout the first half, with the Eagles striking first. David Chase connected on a 48-yard bomb to James Dobson on the game’s second play. The Seahawks answered with 14 unanswered points, with Peters galloping 44 yards for a touchdown and Antonio Gurro scoring from 25 yards out just over two minutes later.

The second quarter belonged to Husson. Mike Prentiss of Bangor (16 carries, 129 yards) scored on runs of 29 and 31 yards with at 16-yard touchdown scamper by Dan Demars sandwiched in between, making the halftime score 21-21.

The second half was all Slave Regina. Peters’ six-yard touchdown was the only score of the third quarter while Frye added a 16-yard run with 5:52 to play in the game to seal the win. Matt Hilton capped the scoring for the Eagles with a 52-yard gallop with 1:30 remaining.

Adam Scott added 69 yards on 16 carries for Husson. Chase finished five of 13 with 107 yards with a touchdown and pair of interceptions. Colby Horne of Belfast notched a 35-yard reception. Tom Lasko had six tackles while Ross Salovitch, Dylan Veilleux and J.P. Flockemer added five apiece.
