EAST SULLIVAN – Jay McNally scored the tie-breaking goal in overtime on an 18-yard direct kick to give the Machias Bulldogs a 2-1 schoolboy soccer victory over the Sumner Tigers Monday night.
McNally also scored with 18 minutes left in the second half to send the game into overtime. Cory Brooks faced nine shots and saved eight for 1-0 Machias.
Chris Cowperthwaite scored on an assist by Jeff Burditt and Mason Young made 34 saves on 36 shots for the 0-2 Tigers.
John Bapst 1, Brewer 0
At the BMHI field in Bangor, Sam Heathcote’s unassisted goal with 4:23 left in the second half lifted host John Bapst to its first win of the season.
Goalies Connor Campbell and Chris Smith combined to make six saves on six shots for the 1-1 Crusaders. Ben Davis made 14 saves on 15 shots for 0-2 Brewer.

Central 2, Dexter 1 (2OT)
At Dexter, Josh Underhill scored with 16 seconds left in the second overtime to break a 1-1 tie for the Red Devils of Corinth.
Nick Elliot scored the tying goal for 1-0 Central and Charles Haney made 12 saves on 30 shots.
Dan Fournier netted the Tiger’s goal, while Sam Bowers made 14 saves on 26 shots.
JV: Dexter 1-0.
Hermon 5, Foxcroft Acad. 4
At Alfond Field in Dover-Foxcroft, Ryan Tarr had a hat trick for the Hawks as they edged the host Ponies.
Anthony Rowe contributed two goals for Hermon. Tarr, Chris Fournier, Corey Stanhope and Brian McGinley each had an assist. Corey Stanhope saved 10 of 17 shots he faced for 1-1 Hermon.
Don Shin had a goal and an assist for Foxcroft, while Mitch Sawyer, Nick Briggs and Leonard Sheen each scored a goal. Shen Hu Chai added another assist and James Tirrell made 15 saves on 20 shots for 0-1 Foxcroft Academy.
Field hockey
John Bapst 5, Bangor 0
At Bangor, Marci Scofield notched three goals, all assisted by Ashley Freeman, as the Crusaders opened their season with a win.
Freeman also scored on an assist from Meagan Tilton, and Erika Getchell scored unassisted for John Bapst. Meredith Atkinson stopped all 10 shots she faced.
Sarah Friske and Sarah Hanselman combined to make 12 saves on 17 shots for the 0-2 Rams.
Dexter 4, Stearns 2
At Dexter, Meagan Fogarty scored twice and added two assists to lead the Tigers to victory.
Michelle and Nikki Chapman each scored a goal, while Nicci Burton and Vanessa Hartford both had an assist for 1-1 Dexter.
Sarah Sundo and Jamie Johnson each scored for the Minutemen. Felicia Achorn and Dana Somers had assists.

Hampden 5, Brewer 0
At Hampden on Saturday, Alisa Hamilton scored two goals as the Broncos blanked the Witches.
Lynn Peters, Gretchen Lescord and Tini Lumino each chipped in with a goal for 1-0 Hampden. Caroline Samp didn’t face any Brewer shots. Amy Ryder, Erika Veinote and Sarah Hessert each added an assist.
Zora Merrill made 17 saves on 29 shots for the 0-1 Witches.
Girls soccer
Hermon 4, Foxcroft Acad. 2
At Hermon, Cassie White netted three goals in the first half to lead the Hawks to victory.
Katie Lane assisted on one of White’s goals and Paige Macdonald also scored a first-half goal. Shannon Wiggin faced 10 shots and made seven saves for 2-0 Hermon.
Leslie Martin and Tina Weymouth each scored a goal for the 0-1 Ponies. Lindsay Chase added an assist and Bryanna Collins made four saves on nine shots.

At Brewer, Jocelyn Bunker and Molly Jones each scored a goal in the Crusaders’ 2-1 win over the Witches.
Caroline Cassling faced nine shots and stopped eight for 2-0 Bapst.
Sarah Risser scored for Brewer on an assist by Carolyn Tuck. Anna Bean made 12 saves on 14 shots for the 0-1 Witches.
