DEXTER – An Orneville man was being evaluated late Tuesday afternoon at Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft after his dump truck struck power lines at Sherburne Farms.

Randy Herbest, 29, had dumped a load of black incinerator ash at the farm and had started to put the dump body back onto the truck when it caught high-voltage power lines.

The incident brought down four utility poles and caused the line to arc, according to Dexter Fire Chief Melvin Wyman.

The high voltage blew out six of the truck’s tires, he said.

“He’s a very, very lucky man,” Wyman said about the driver. Herbest was driving a truck for Ed Herbest Trucking of Orneville. His only visible injury was a burn on one finger.

Because of the downed lines, power was out in Dexter for about 45 minutes, according to Wyman.
