PRESQUE ISLE – Shane Coffin scored twice in the first half as the Husson College Eagles shut down UMaine-Presque Isle to post a 4-0 win in the men’s soccer championship game of UMPI’s Kickoff Tournament Sunday.
Husson advanced to the final thanks to a 3-0 win over Nova Scotia Agricultural College Saturday while UMPI blanked Maine Maritime 3-0. MMA and Nova Scotia Agricultural College tied 1-1 in overtime in Sunday’s consolation game.
In Sunday’s championship game, Tom Nevue and Oscar Ody added goals for Husson and Matt Goodman had seven saves on nine shots. UMPI goalies Broden Dragomir and Mike Latchford combined for two saves on four shots.
In the consolation game, Garrett Hutchins scored to tie the game for MMA, matching Elliot Levy’s earlier goal for NSAC. Josh Heath had nine saves on 11 shots for the Mariners while NSAC’s Marcus Fiddes stopped eight of 10 shots.
In Saturday’s games, Travis Parent scored twice and Sebastian Itman added a goal to power the Owls, while Dragomir made four saves on five shots. Heath stopped eight of 12 shots.
Husson’s Coffin recorded two goals and Ben Sobey had another for the Eagles. Goodman stopped two of three shots and Fiddes made 10 saves on 14 shots.
Coffin was named the tourney MVP and teammates Goodman and Matt McCarron were named to the all-tourney team. Other all-tourney members were UMPI’s Jamie Brewer, Ryan Scott and Mike Lone; Hutchins, Matt Zeh and Andrew Pease of MMA; and Levy and Blair Cameron of NSAC.

UM-Fort Kent 3, UM-Machias 2
At Fort Kent Saturday, Anthony Lamarr scored the game-winning goal in the 85th minute as the Bengals rallied past the Clippers.
Rob Rochester assisted on the winner. Noe Abejon-Aparicio and Donatus Sumyla scored consecutive goals as UMFK (2-0-1) came back from a two-goal deficit. Nick Thibodeau made five saves on nine shots.
Brian Hundasyde and Luke Beckett each scored for 1-1-1 UMM. Andy Swift stopped six of 11 shots.
Unity 5, NMCC 0
At Unity Saturday, Josh Blair and Matt Belonick each netted two goals as the Rams took a victory.
Chris Durfee added another goal, while Darrell Aresco and Ben Skelly had assists. Tyler Ferguson saved all six shots to come his way for 2-0 Unity.
Shawn Boucher faced 17 shots, stopping 12 for 0-1 Northern Maine Community College.
UM-Dartmouth 3, St. Joseph’s 0
At Standish, Lee Soares tallied a goal and an assist to power UMass-Dartmouth.
Andy Ventura and Jesse Vezina added goals for the 3-1 Corsairs, while Kyle Fossey made two saves on four shots.
Kenny Kehoe made four saves on 21 shots for the 0-1-1 Monks.
USM 2, Worcester State 0
At Worcester, Mass., Mike Suesse netted an unassisted goal at 58:33 to lead the Huskies of Gorham Saturday.
Zach Ansley scored on a Tim Williams assist at 85:32 for the 2-0-1 Huskies. Chris Willard stopped three of six shots.
Nick Robinson made five saves on 10 shots for 0-2-1 Worcester State.

At Amherst, Mass., Saturday, Jimmy Velas scored his first two career goals to lift the Black Bears to their first win of the season.
Justin Stockford and Matt Bernal each had an assist on one of Velas’s goals. Joe Corey added another goal off an assist from Gabriel Germano. Chad Mongeon had four saves as Maine improved to 1-1-1.
Matty Lemire scored of a pass from Michael Donnely for the 0-3 UMass and Colin Burns made four saves.
UM-Machias 3, SMCC 2
At Machias Sunday, Brian Handasyde scored the game-winning goal off a Jorge Tassara assist during the 90th minute to power the Clippers.
Tassara scored the first goal with an assist from Handasyde and Zach Andrews hooked up with Evan Timusk for a goal in the 88th minute. Jack Brunino made nine saves on 14 shots.
Dan Boothby and Patrick Shaw each scored a goal for Southern Maine Community College of Portland. James Ferree stopped five of 13 shots.

At Unity Sunday, Owls goalie Sam Grier stopped nine of 12 shots to shut down the Rams.
Tara Cropley scored a goal and added an assist for 1-1 UMaine-Presque Isle. Megan White and Morgan Anderson chipped in with goals.
Christine Blakesley made 20 saves on 25 shots for 0-1 Unity.

At Fort Kent Saturday, Cathy Wilson recorded two goals, including the game winner in the 70th minute, as the Clippers held off the Bengals.
Elizabeth Brisette and Jessie Kuester assisted on the goals for 2-0-1 UMM while Angela Qualey stopped eight of 15 shots.
Michelle Bourgoin scored off a Kristine Cyr assist to tie it for 0-3 UMFK. Kara Jackson stopped 16 of 24 shots.

At Castine Saturday, Amy Asselin scored two goals and assisted two others to lead the Mariners to the shutout win.
Jessica Taylor netted two goals for 3-0 Maine Maritime. Ashley Brooker added a goal and Ashley Douglass had an assist. Meghan Marshall stopped the only shot she saw.
Sam Grier and Anna Lenetine combined to make 10 saves on 15 shots for the 0-1 Owls.

At Farmington Saturday, Devin Edwards scored twice to lead the University of Southern Maine.
Liz Brunton added a second half goal for the 2-1-1 Huskies of Gorham as Eva Hanson and Amanda Loomis each had an assist. Marcy Ansley made two saves on three shots.
Melissa Demerchant and Billy Jo Putnam combined to stop two of 12 shots for the 0-1 University of Maine at Farmington.

At Somerville, Mass., Saturday, Maggie Herlihy scored the game-tying goal for Colby in the second half, but the teams played to a double-overtime tie.

At Castine Saturday, Antwan Harris rushed for 199 yards and all four Mount Ida touchdowns, including a 17-yard scoring run with 2:11 left in the game, as the Mustangs rallied for the win.
P.J. Matthews completed seven of his nine passing attempts for 110 yards for Mount Ida.
Maine Maritime’s Cody Schmidt scored on a 10-yard pass from Patrick Bard with 54 seconds left. Bard rushed for 135 yards on 39 carries and threw for 99 yards on 6-of-8 passing. Nate Bolduc led the Mariners with eight tackles.
