One person injured in two-car accident in Orono

One person was critically injured Monday night in a two-car accident on Forest Avenue in Orono.

Police did not release the names of the three people involved in the 9:30 p.m. accident. The drivers of both vehicles were transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, according to Orono police Officer Lee Miller.

As the two vehicles traveled west on Forest Avenue, one driver attempted to pass the other and the cars collided, Miller said. One vehicle went off the road and flipped over, critically injuring the driver but leaving the passenger unharmed, he said.

The driver of the other vehicle was conscious and alert before being transported to the hospital, Miller said.

State police remained on the scene Monday night reconstructing the accident, which occurred on a curve approximately two miles from where Forest Avenue intersects Stillwater Avenue.

“This is not a place that people want to be passing,” Miller said Monday.

Old Town police discovered oxycodone, marijuana and drug paraphernalia Sunday night when they searched the apartment of a local woman.

Jennifer Neptune, 31, of 205 Water St. consented at 10 p.m. Sunday to a search of her residence, but refused to allow police into her bedroom, according to Sgt. Mike Hashey.

Hashey said Neptune was removed from the bedroom after he watched her hide drug paraphernalia in a nightstand beside her bed. A search warrant was granted early Monday morning, and police found in the apartment hypodermic needles, spoons with white residue, a small amount of marijuana, unlabeled pill bottles, and other drug paraphernalia, Hashey said.

Much of the evidence was in reach of Neptune’s 3-year-old child who was sleeping on the bed, Hashey said.

Neptune was arrested for falsifying physical evidence and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a Schedule W drug, Hashey said. The Department of Health and Human Services has been notified of the case and additional charges are likely, he said.
