Spencer lifts Bears to 2OT win

ORONO – Old Town’s Kasey Spencer pumped home her own rebound with 1:43 left in the second overtime to supply the University of Maine with a 2-1 college field hockey victory over Dartmouth on Tuesday.

It was Spencer’s second goal of the season and both have been game-winners. Winslow’s Katie Flaherty assisted on the goal for the 5-2 Black Bears.

Audrey Knutson staked Dartmouth to a 1-0 lead, but Rachael Hilgar equalized with her fourth of the season off a Joanna Fernandes pass.

Jamie Morin made nine saves for Maine, while Lauren Balukjian finished with 11 for 1-3 Dartmouth.

UMF 3, Bates 2 (OT)

At Farmington, Kristy Veazie’s unassisted goal in overtime lifted UMaine-Farmington to victory.

Kristen Allen scored off a Mary Sinclair assist for UMF, and Kristi Cochin converted a Mary Berry pass for a goal. Ashleigh Biette finished with eight saves on 21 shots.

Erin Chandler scored off an Allison Marshall assist for Bates of Lewiston, and Megan Petry scored unassisted with about four minutes left in regulation to tie it at 2-2. Sarah Judice made three saves on 19 shots.

New England College 2, USM 1 (2OT)

At Gorham, Brittney Vogrin scored 6:15 into the second sudden-death overtime to give the Pilgrims the victory.

Tracey Montgomery scored off a Kayla Vaughan pass with 11:25 left in regulation to tie the game for USM, now 0-5. Sadie Garnache-Poirier made 21 saves for USM.

Men’s soccer

Bates 2, UM-Farmington 1

At Lewiston, senior Ian Livengood’s first career goal, off an assist from David Shear, lifted the Bobcats.

Duane Pelz also scored for 1-1 Bates with an assist from Jacob Bluestone, and James Kenly made two saves on three shots while sub Aaron Schleicher stopped the only shot he faced.

Joe Conway tallied for the 1-1 Beavers. Seabren Reeves and Eric Stailing combined for six saves on 19 shots.

Thomas 6, Unity 3

At Waterville, Chris Inzerillo scored four goals to lead the Terriers by the Rams.

Ryan Buttice added a goal and an assist for the 1-1-1 winners while Tyler Simpson chipped in with a goal. Tyler Colby, Sam McKenny, Devon Wilkens, and Chad Desjardins each recorded an assist.

Josh Blair and Peter Taliaferro each scored unassisted goals for 1-1 Unity, which also received a goal when a Thomas defender headed the ball past his own goalie.

Thomas outshot Unity 26-10.

Women’s soccer

Colby 3, UNE 1

At Waterville, Libba Cox and Laura Williamson scored in a two-minute span of the first half to snap a 1-1 tie and lead the White Mules past the University of New England of Biddeford.

Kaitlin Herlihy opened the scoring for Colby, and Liza Benson made one save on four shots. Amanda Smith gave UNE the early tie. Amanda Brown and Mallory Wilson combined for eight saves on 18 shots.
