Wessel, Cousins spark GSA victory

CORINTH – Blake Wessel netted two goals and Tyler Cousins had another as the George Stevens Academy Eagles swept past Central 3-0 Tuesday in a matchup of unbeaten schoolboy soccer teams.

Mark Ensworth and Collin Henry combined to face 17 shots and stop 15 for 4-0 George Stevens of Blue Hill.

Charles Haney made 17 saves on 26 shots for the 4-1 Red Devils.

Hampden 6, Bucksport 0

At Bucksport, juniors Martin Earley and Jay Uhrin each netted two goals in the Broncos’ win.

Scott Hiller and Keith Zanardi each had another goal. Uhrin, Zanaradi, Andre Cushing, and Sam Dow all contributed an assist. Billy Shannon didn’t face any shots for 5-0 Hampden Academy.

Miles Bisher saved 19 of the 25 shots he saw for the 0-3 Golden Bucks.

JV: Hampden 7-0

Searsport 4, DI-Stonington 4 (2OT)

At Searsport, Nick Bryant and Colin Ciomei combined for three goals for Deer Isle-Stonington, while Matt Nickerson had three goals for the Searsport Vikings.

Miles Douglass had the Mariners’ other goal. Rob Haskell saved 18 of 22 shots.

Hiroki Tempo had the last goal for the Vikings, and Ryan Shute had two assists. Garrett Greenlaw made 21 saves on 26 shots.

Washington Acad. 2, Sumner 0

At East Machias, Drake Simmons scored two first-half goals to lead the Raiders by the Tigers of East Sullivan.

Simmons’ second goal was unassisted and the first was set up by Minh Nguyen. Jeremy Gray made six saves on 10 shots for the 3-0 Raiders.

For 0-2 Sumner, Mason Young made 13 saves on 24 shots.

Highview Chr. 5, Crown Regional 4 (OT)

At Charleston, Andrew Richard was credited with the winning goal when his throw-in was kicked into the net by a Crown Regional player 1:57 into overtime.

Richard scored three goals for 1-1 Highview Christian, and Jade Philbrick and Josh Mountain tallied one each. Lisa Cooper assisted on Philbrick’s goal. Wesley Jones made 19 saves on 23 shots.

Luke Chamberlain also scored three times for 0-2 Crown Regional of South China, and Joe Bean had the fourth. Connor William-Noel made 30 saves on 35 shots.

Penquis 4, Schenck 3

At East Millinocket, Adam Ballash, Garrett Durant, Nathan Allen, and Jordan Allen each scored and the Patriots of Milo squeezed past Schenck.

Drew Hamlin made 11 saves on 19 shots for 2-1 Penquis.

Jason Kimball scored and had an assist, while Will Hamlin and Aaron White both had goals for 2-1-1 Wolverines. Lanny Thompson faced 18 shots and made 10 saves.

Foxcroft 5, Nokomis 1

At Dover-Foxcroft, Don Shin and Victor Planella each posted a pair of first-half goals to pace the Ponies.

Shin completed the hat trick with a second-half goal. Mitch Sawyer had an assist. James Tirrell made 15 saves on 16 shots for 2-1 FA.

John Stinsman scored for the 0-4 Warriors of Newport, and Brendon Donaldson turned back 20 of the 25 shots he faced.

Girls soccer

BC 4, DI-Stonington 0

At Deer Isle, Amber Leathers led Bangor Christian to the win with a goal and two assists.

Christin Pelletier, Jessica Dougherty, and Adrienne Ricci each scored a goal for the 2-1 Patriots. Johannah Kutz saved all four shots to come her way.

Regyn Lawry faced 28 shots and stopped 19 for 1-2 Deer Isle-Stonington.

Old Town 4, Brewer 1

At Pendleton Street Field in Brewer, Katie Bergeron posted three goals to pace the Indians.

Alison Gallant also scored for 2-1 Old Town, and Amy Mcfalls stopped seven of the 14 shots she faced.

Jordan McLain popped in the 1-3 Witches’ goal, and Anna Bean and Carolyn Tuck combined for 12 saves on 22 shots.

John Bapst 3, Orono 0

At the Bangor Mental Health Institute field in Bangor, Molly Jones, Kortney Lipka, and Haley Cutri posted a goal each to pace the Crusaders.

Kelly Miller assisted on Jones’ goal, and Caroline Cassling stopped all 11 shots she faced in net for the 3-1-1 Crusaders.

Amanda Morrison made 25 saves on 28 shots for the 0-4 Red Riots.

Field hockey

Rockland 3, Mount View 2

At Thorndike, Ali Belyea knocked in two goals for the Tigers, including the game winner with 8:53 left to play.

Nicole Clark had the other goal, and Brittany Kenniston made 13 saves on 15 shots.

Stephanie McHuren and Cathy Spencer each had a goal for the Mustangs. Carrie Beverage faced 16 shots, making 11 saves.

Dexter 4, Central 0

At Corinth, Meagan Fogarty contributed two goals as the Tigers gained the victory.

Nicci Burton and Ashley Wakefield each added another goal, while Cristy McGowan stopped both shots she saw for 4-1 Dexter.

Kara Voisine faced 17 shots and made 11 saves for the 0-3-1 Red Devils.

JV: Dexter 4-0

Mattanawcook 1, Bangor 0

At Bangor, Betheny Libby’s first goal of the season, coming off a Kaitlin Shorey pass, was all Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln needed as the Lynx improved to 3-0-1.

MA’s Melany Markie and Sarah French combined for three saves, while 0-4 Bangor received eight saves from Sarah Frisk and Sarah Hanselman.
