Business Women of Bangor
BANGOR – The American Business Women Association invites women to its October meeting for the honor of becoming a charter member of Business Women of Bangor.
The meeting will be held noon-1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at the Muddy Rudder in Brewer.
The organization offers networking and support for today’s businesswoman. The requirement for membership is active employment.
The mission of ABWA is “to bring together businesswomen of diverse occupations and to provide opportunities for them to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking support and national recognition.”
A Kansas City businessman founded ABWA in 1949 as a means to support and empower women to reach their educational and career goals. His daughter, Carolyn Bufton Elman, is now executive director of the organization.
ABWA provides an opportunity to earn noncollege credits and continuing education units with certificates of completion.
The organization offers conferences led by professional speakers and educators from many industries.
ABWA provides a wide range of books, learning tools and prepackaged educational programs designed to help women take control of their own professional development.
The Stephen Bufton Memorial Education Fund has contributed to date more than $13 million to women’s professional success through education.
More than 1,100 ABWA chapters offer networking and professional development programs through monthly meetings.
