It’s time to ask ‘why’

Why are we building 14 permanent military bases in Iraq? To protect U.S. business interests?

Why are we building the largest embassy in the world in Iraq? To serve the U.S. corporate colony in the heart of the Middle East?

Why is Vice President Cheney refusing to give the agenda for his Energy Task Force meeting? Because the decision to go to war in Iraq, thus voiding Iraqi oil contracts with France, Germany and Russia, was made at that meeting?

Why have we begun the Israeli tactic of bombing houses where suspected terrorists may hide? Because we are no longer a nation that concerns itself with the innocent men, women and children who died in collateral damage?

Why is one-third of the tax cuts going to the richest 1 percent while the elderly and the disabled face a 17 percent Medicare increase?

Why are we so concerned about being “safe” that we will give up our freedoms, imprison hundreds without trial, and smear and insult those who disagree with us?

Why aren’t we asking “why”?
