BANGOR – Altrusa of Sanford-Springvale collected near-new toys and infant furniture for the children’s resource room of the Maine Air National Guard’s base in Bangor.
After National Guard units were deployed to Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq, the spouses and volunteers began a support group for the family members who were left behind.
The children’s resource room was in need of furniture, toys and games for the children to enjoy.
This need was brought to the attention of past president Claire Creteau through her daughter, Tami French, who was involved with this volunteer group. With the help of her fellow Altrusans, Creteau was able to collect a military van full of usable articles.
On hand to receive the donation from Altrusa were Maj. Debbie Kelly, community manager at the base; and Patty Reynolds, Col. Don Reynolds’ wife and head of the family program and volunteers.
Altrusa is an active community service organization in the Sanford area. For information, call Creteau at 324-2712.
