Cobb, Ward spark Hornets’ upset win

ASHLAND – Sam Cobb and Isaac Ward both had goals as the Ashland Hornets stung Washburn 2-1 in schoolboy soccer action Friday.

Josh Chamberlin and Jeremy Baker added assists for 2-5-1 Ashland. Kevin Baker had 14 saves on 15 shots.

Ethan Doody scored on a penalty kick for the 9-2-1 Beavers. Jason Thompson stopped 13 of 15 shots.

Rockland 3, Mount View 1

At Thorndike, Roman Sonnek knocked in two goals to lift the Tigers to their first win.

Ryan Dow saw 27 shots and saved seven of them for 1-4 Rockland.

Ebon Estell scored unassisted for the 2-2-1 Mustangs. Ross Caron and Ethan Jean stopped six out of 12 shots.

Bangor 2, John Bapst 1

At Bangor, Dylan George scored both goals for the Rams.

Jessefa Murphy had seven saves on eight shots for 4-1 Bangor.

Ben Fenney scored unassisted for the 2-4 Crusaders. Chris Smith stopped four out of six shots.

JV: Bangor 2-0

Old Town 2, MDI 1 (OT)

At Old Town, Tim Niles scored off a Dustin Marley pass with 2:49 gone in the first OT to give the Indians the win.

Nate Lonko had the other goal with an assist from Dillon Clark for 1-2-1 Old Town. Marley had seven saves on 13 shots.

Richard Hilliard scored the 3-2 Trojans’ lone goal with Willy Ramond getting the assist. Matt Blanford stopped 12 of 18 shots.

JV: MDI 3-2

Orono 2, Hermon 1 (OT)

At Orono, Tom Smythe scored off a direct kick with one minute left in the first overtime to give the Red Riots their first win of the year.

Marc Schmid scored unassisted for 1-3-1 Orono. Mat Lint had 11 saves on 12 shots.

Ryan Carr notched an unassisted goal for the 2-4 Hawks. Corey Stanhope blocked eight of 10 shots.

JV: Hermon 3-2

Machias 1, Shead 0

At Eastport, Patrick McDonald scored off a corner kick in the second half as the Bulldogs prevailed.

Marcus Frutchey turned back four out of seven shots for 3-0 Machias.

Craig Hastings made seven saves on 15 shots for the 3-2 Tigers.

Girls soccer

So. Aroostook 5, Katahdin 4

At Stacyville, Mindy Watson notched two goals and an assist and Audrey Charette added two goals as the Warriors of Dyer Brook edged the Cougars.

Kaylea Collier tallied a goal for the 7-1 winners. Erin Caswell had 15 saves on 22 shots.

Ronnie Robinson led 0-7 Katahdin with two goals. Michelle Martin had a goal with two assists and Brooke Smallwood a goal. Kayla Stevens and Clarissa Gallagher combined for 10 saves on 29 shots.

Ashland 1, Washburn 0 (OT)

At Ashland, Beth Chamberlin scored an unassisted goal with 3:41 left in the first overtime to give the Hornets the win.

Ashley Nemer turned away all 11 shots she saw for 7-1 Ashland.

Amber Palmer had 20 saves on 24 shots for the 6-6 Beavers.

Greenville 2, Calvary Chapel 0

At Greenville, Danielle Anderson and Kahla Lander each scored unassisted goals as the Lakers blanked the Sabers.

Beth Bartley rejected five out of 10 shots for 5-1 Greenville.

Jessica Graves had 16 saves on 30 shots for 2-1 Calvary Chapel of Orrington.

Penquis 2, Schenck 2 (2OT)

At Milo, Kate Hamlin scored two goals for the host Patriots and Gabrielle Rioux knocked in two for the Wolverines.

Michelle Mulherin made 12 saves on 13 shots for 0-3-1 Penquis, while Robin Larlee stopped 12 of 17 shots for 2-3-1 Schenck of East Millinocket.

Searsport 6, DI-Stonington 0

At Searsport, Nori Francis-Mezger knocked in three goals to lead the Vikings.

Kate Bradshaw, Natasha Zito, and Theresa Cameron also scored for 5-0 Searsport. April Pickering stopped both shots she faced.

Regyn Lawry had 27 saves on 36 shots for the 2-3 Mariners.

PVHS 4, Dexter 0

At Dexter, Ashley Dawson knocked in two goals as the Howlers of Howland rolled.

Randi Rackely and Tiffany Brown added a goal apiece for 4-0 Penobscot Valley. Jennifer Plourde stopped all nine shots she faced.

Lindsay Burton stopped 13 out of 23 shots for the 1-4 Tigers.

Washington Acad. 3, Sumner 2

At East Sullivan, Kayla Wood scored on a goalmouth scramble with 51/2 minutes remaining to lead the Raiders to the win.

Sarah Rushforth tallied the first two goals for 4-0 WA of East Machias, and Wood assisted on one of them. Meghan Rose made 11 saves on 13 shots.

Kate Rock and Jordan Reed scored for the 0-5 Tigers, and Kylie Bragdon assisted on both of them. Whitney Page made 20 saves on 23 shots.

Calais 1, Woodland 0

At Calais, Darcey Gillespie scored an unassisted goal with 19:09 left in the second half to give the Blue Devils the win.

Stephanie Perry stopped all six shots she faced for 2-1 Calais.

Cindy Bergin made seven saves on eight shots for the 0-3 Dragons.
