A man was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor on Saturday with an apparent head injury after a car hit him while he was walking on Odlin Road.
Dennis Garey, 23, of Bangor had just purchased items at the Irving gas station and was walking toward Russell’s Entertainment Complex when a car driven by Scott Rollins, 20, of Hampden struck him.
Rollins told Bangor police Officer Joshua Ouellette that he didn’t see Garey in the road. Ouellette wrote in his report that Garey was wearing dark clothing and it was raining, which probably contributed to low visibility.
Rollins told the officer he probably was going 25 mph when his car struck Garey. A passenger in Rollins’ car yelled for him to stop, but Rollins didn’t have enough time, Ouellette’s report said.
Garey was taken to EMMC with possible head trauma, the report said. A nursing supervisor at the hospital had no information Sunday night regarding Garey’s condition.
A man was arrested Saturday on charges of operating under the influence after he reportedly hit a parked taxi on Godfrey Boulevard in Bangor.
Bangor police Officer Jason Stuart went to the accident scene and spoke with the driver, Richard Mahan, 53, of Bangor.
Mahan apparently was approaching a curve and didn’t see the taxi, which was parked legally on the side of the road. Stuart estimated the damage to the taxi at $2,000, his report stated.
Mahan admitted to having three glasses of beer, Stuart’s report said, and the officer wrote that Mahan performed poorly on sobriety tests.
Stuart took Mahan to Penobscot County Jail where the officer learned that Mahan was on federal probation for a 2001 weapons violation.
