Boy suffers laceration in 2-car accident on I-95

One person was injured Monday in a 5 p.m. accident on Interstate 95 in Bangor.

Adam Armitage, 17, no town available, suffered a laceration when the car in which he was a passenger rear-ended a 2004 Pontiac driven by Sharon Hogan, 47, of St. Albans, according to Maine State Police Trooper Philip Pushard.

Hogan slowed to allow another vehicle into the passing lane ahead of her near the southbound Hammond Street exit, Pushard said. Travis Fusco, 17, of Hermon, driving a 1988 Toyota pickup truck in the passing lane, then hit Hogan’s vehicle from behind, the trooper said.

Both vehicles were heavily damaged, Pushard said.

Emergency rescue personnel treated Armitage on the scene, though Pushard said he did not know whether Armitage was hospitalized.

The accident, which occurred near a construction zone, tied up traffic on I-95 for about a half-hour, Pushard said.

A city bus hit a police cruiser that was stopped to investigate an accident in downtown Bangor on Monday.

Officer Paul Colley had parked his cruiser facing oncoming traffic on Park Street while he handled a nearby car accident at 8:15 a.m., according to reports. The bus driver, Blaine E. Fisher, 63, of Bangor, told police he saw the cruiser and its flashing blue lights as he traveled down Park Street and began to turn right onto Harlow Street.

Fisher then struck the rear of the cruiser, breaking the brake light lens on the police vehicle and scratching the paint on the side of the bus, according to reports.

Fisher later said he thought he had swung wide enough around the cruiser, but the sun was in his eyes and the bus mirrors obstructed his view.

The accident caused an estimated $400 in damage to the bus and $100 in damage to the cruiser, according to reports.

The bumper on Tomah’s truck was scraped with purple paint matching that of the other car, according to police.

She was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and operating after suspension.
