ROCKLAND – A local driver landed in the bushes Sunday on Bog Road when she stepped on the brakes after passing a police cruiser at 75 mph in a 30 mph zone, according to city police Sgt. Kenneth Smith on Monday.

Tracy Merrill, 17, of Rockland was charged with criminal speed, he said.

The incident occurred at 11:55 a.m. when she was heading south on Bog Road and passed Sgt. Jeffrey McLaughlin, who was in his cruiser.

Neither Merrill nor her passengers, Tony Baxter, 18, and Jessica Walsh, 17, were injured in the accident. They were wearing seat belts, Smith said.
