BRADFORD – The John B. Curtis Free Public Library has completed a successful summer reading program, made possible through a grant from the Rose and Samuel Rudman Trust.

The most unique aspect of the summer reading program was the addition of a busing program for children in town to come to the library for the Wednesday morning program. An average of 25 children and 10 adults attended each session.

This summer’s theme was “Traveling Around the World.”

Each week the children “traveled” to a different continent by way of plane, boat, bus or car. They had the chance the sample foods, play games, make a craft and hear stories from around the world.

“This summer’s reading program was the best yet,” said librarian Brenda Mowdy. More than 75,000 pages were read by the children who participated in the summer reading contest.

“This was up 50 percent from last summer,” Mowdy said. “We can’t wait to see what next summer will bring.”
