Maine ports receive federal security grants

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins announced this week $745,400 in security federal funding to various state ports.

The city of Rockland will receive $235,500 to help provide the Maine State Ferry Service with inspection mirrors and closed-circuit television surveillance systems.

Irving Oil in Searsport will be granted $110,000 to enhance security and technology at the Searsport Marine Terminal.

Finally, Maine’s largest city, Portland, will receive $400,000 to provide screening equipment for passenger marine terminals.

The grant funding is awarded by the Department of Homeland Security under the U.S. Department of Justice.
