BINGHAM – Police were searching Thursday for a man they believe may have abducted his wife from the parking lot of the Bingham Health Center.

State police and the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department were looking for 29-year-old Derek Miller, who was believed to be driving a blue 1998 Dodge Caravan. Miller was out on bail after being charged with assaulting his wife.

Denise Miller’s car was found in the parking lot of the Bingham Health Center on U.S. Route 201, where she works, at about 7:30 a.m. The car’s engine was running and her purse was inside the vehicle.

Derek Miller is 5 feet 11 inches tall, 200 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. Denise Miller is 5 feet 1 inch, 130 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

State police spokesman Stephen McCausland said the Dodge Caravan was located late Thursday afternoon on Rowe Pond Road in Pleasant Ridge Plantation, across the Kennebec River from Bingham.

McCausland said there was no sign of the estranged couple and that additional state police and game wardens were dispatched to the area.
