Rock concert to be staged on waterfront

Noel Walsh firmly believes there is a lot of great music coming out of the Bangor area these days. Unfortunately, the twentysomething musician says, not enough people are hearing it. His solution? Throw a concert, of course.

With support from a few local sponsors, Walsh has organized Unleash the Music, a free concert from noon to midnight Saturday, Sept. 25, on the Bangor Waterfront. The event features a lineup of 10 area artists, including folk rocker Doug Crate, punk rockers The Seductive Elite, “Rockin’ Out” favs The Funkizon and the Eric Green Band, as well as Walsh’s own group, Earth Tone.

“It’s about local music and sharing it for free,” he says simply. “We’re not doing it to make money; we’re doing it to unleash the music.”

Walsh hopes the concert will also help spread the word about the Bangor Alliance of Musicians, a Web-based networking group and one of the event’s co-sponsors. Through BAM’s Web site, area musicians can share such valuable information as where to play or who’s available for jamming.

Moreover, Walsh says it’s a way to help the live music scene in Bangor thrive by putting together groups of musicians who might not otherwise meet.

“What [BAM] is trying to do is tear down the wall and put everybody on the same page,” he explains. “Because the more people you know, the more you can get done.”
