BUCKSPORT – A public meeting by opponents of the proposed property-tax cap referendum is planned Oct. 12.

The meeting, which will include question-and-answer time, will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, at the Bucksport Middle School Auditorium.

The referendum was initiated by a citizen petition and will be on the Nov. 2 state ballot. If it passes, it would cap property taxes at 1 percent of their assessed value.

Wes Bonney, chairman of Citizens United for Maine, which opposes the tax cap, will give an overview.

Marc Curtis, superintendent, will outline the effects of the measure, should it pass, on the Bucksport school system. Bucksport Town Manager Roger Raymond will outline the possible effects of the measure on the town.

The agenda released last week does not list any pro-tax-cap speakers.

Call the Bucksport Area Chamber of Commerce at 469-6818 for details or help with transportation.
