2 Martin goals power Ponies past Warriors

DOVER-FOXCROFT – Leslie Martin scored two goals in the last seven minutes to spark Foxcroft Academy to a 3-2 girls soccer victory over Nokomis on Tuesday.

Lindsey Chase scored on a Martin assist with 10:58 left in the first half for the 4-4 Ponies. Brittany Fadley made five saves on seven shots.

Kelly Paradis and Erin Guesman both scored a goal for the 0-6 Warriors of Newport and Rozlyn Peterson stopped 13 of 16 shots.

Hampden 3, Old Town 0

At Hampden, Brienne Boss, Katie Lawler, and Kathleen Macone each notched a goal for Hampden.

Michelle Manning contributed two assists for the 6-0 Broncos, and Becca Workman saved four of eight shots.

Amy McFalls faced 20 shots and saved 13 for the 5-3 Indians.

JV: Hampden 6-0

Schenck 6, Katahdin 2

At East Millinocket, Cortney McLaughlin scored two goals to lead Schenck to the win.

Gabby Rioux, Nicole Crocker, Courtney McLeod, and Jean Fleming each scored a goal for the 4-4-1 Wolverines. Whitney Lyons had an assist, and Robin Larlee made 11 saves on 13 shots.

Cait Duffy and Jen Pipes both scored a goal for the 1-8 Cougars of Stacyville. Kayle Stevens stopped 17 of 29 shots.

Field hockey

MCI 1, Waterville 1 (2OT)

At Pittsfield, Emily Woodbury tied the game for Maine Central Institute with 14:36 left in the second half. Courtney Howe was in goal for 3-4-1 MCI.

Whitney Russo scored with 1:47 left in the first, and Ashley Poulin was in net for 4-2-2 Waterville.

Nokomis 1, Central 0

At Newport, Dana-Jo Gardner scored off a Michelle Barden assist with 16:14 left in the first half to lead Nokomis to the win.

Kirsten Gould made all four saves for the 5-2-1 Warriors.

Kara Vosine made one save on two shots for 1-6-2 Central of Corinth.

JV: Central 1-0

John Bapst 3, Hampden 0

At Bangor, Erika Getchell knocked in two to lead the Crusaders to victory.

Katie Jones had the third goal and Marcie Scolfield and Ashley Freeman had assists. Meredith Atkinson stopped all 10 shots she faced for 7-1-1 John Bapst.

Natalie Atkins saved 16 of 19 shots for the 6-3 Broncos.

Boys soccer

Lee 2, Schenck 1

At East Millinocket, Rick Kim had a goal and an assist as the Pandas improved their record to 7-1.

Tom Bird added a goal, and Andrew Stevens contributed an assist for Lee, while Chris King made 10 saves on 13 shots.

Aaron Waite scored for 3-5-1 Schenck, and Lanny Thompson made 10 saves on 12 shots for the Wolverines.

Foxcroft 5, Nokomis 2

At Newport, Foxcroft Academy got goals from five different players to trip up host Nokomis.

Mitch Sawyer, Don Shin, Leonard Sheen, and Derek Smith scored first-half goals for the 5-3 Ponies, while Cyle Heaney added a second-half goal.

Mat Thornton scored a pair of goals for 0-8 Nokomis.

James Tirrell made 10 saves on 14 shots for Foxcroft. Wayne May made 12 saves on 20 shots for Nokomis.

GPCA 9, Highview Chr. 2

At Charleston, Derek Green scored three goals to lead Greater Portland Christian Academy past the Knights.

Mike Jones added two goals and an assist, and Andy Marston had two goals for 4-1 GPCA. Tyson LePage and Jacob Thibeault posted a goal each. Mike Saunders made six saves on nine shots and Geoff Taylor made one save on three shots.

For 1-4-1 Highview Christian, Andrew Richard scored off an assist from Kyle Peach and Jana Philbrick tallied with an assist from Stefan Rowe. Wesley Jones made five saves on 18 shots, and Rowe made 13 saves on 20 shots.

DI-Stonington 4, Penobscot Valley 3

At Howland, Nick Ciomei scored three goals in the first half, including the 2-2 tiebreaker that propelled the Mariners past the Howlers.

Collin Ciomei made it 4-2 at halftime, and Tom Robbins made 27 saves on 39 shots for 4-3 Deer Isle-Stonington.

First-half goals by Matt Cummings and Nik Hockridge pulled 3-4-1 Penobscot Valley into a 2-2 tie, and Ryan Ware added a second-half goal. Josh Ireland and Brian Harris combined for 11 saves on 18 shots.

Piscataquis 6, Penquis 0

At Guilford, John Billstone scored two goals to lift Piscataquis past Penquis.

Roy Burdin, Jeffrey Robinson, Andy Zimmerman, and Tobias Heine each scored a goal for the 4-4 Pirates. Ryan Martell stopped six of nine shots.

Drew Hamlin made 17 saves on 31 shots for the 2-5 Patriots of Milo.

Ellsworth 4, Orono 0

At Orono, Chris Leighton opened the scoring on an own goal and Cory Smith made sure it was all the Eagles needed as he made six saves on six shots.

Jensen Rich added two goals, and Pat Nabozny had one for 7-1 Ellsworth. Demetrios Katsiaficas and Andy Berry picked up assists.

Mat Lint made five saves on nine shots for the 1-6-1 Red Riots.

JV: Ellsworth 2-1

Bangor Christian 5, Searsport 2

At Searsport, Eric Sobey had two goals and two assists to power Bangor Christian to the victory.

Josh Griffin scored two goals and assisted on another for the 6-1-1 Patriots. Matt Denbow added a goal and Shane Murphy had an assist. Aaron Wilson and Ryan Weston combined to make seven saves on 16 shots.

Josh Nickerson and Hiroki Dempo each scored for 1-5-1 Searsport. Ryan Hast and Mike Tufts combined for 16 saves on 23 shots.

Central 2, Dexter 2 (2OT)

At Corinth, the host Red Devils rallied from a 2-0 deficit at the half.

Aaron Woodman and Dan Beathain posted goals for the 3-4-1 Tigers in the first half. Joe Faggiole and Will Fenn had 5-3-1 Central’s two goals in the second, with one assist from Danny Kane.

Sam Bowers made 20 saves on 24 shots for Dexter, and Charles Haney saved 21 of 26 shots for Central.

JV: Dexter 3-1

Hampden 7, Old Town 0

At Old Town, Keith Zanardi netted three goals and made an assist as the Broncos took off for the win.

Billy Shannon and Peter Alexander made a goal and an assist each. Martin Earley and Jay Uhrin had a goal apiece, and Max Silver saved all six shots to come his way for 8-0 Hampden.

Sam Petrie and Dustin Marley combined to make nine saves on 18 shots for the 2-6-1 Indians.

JV: Hampden 9-2

MDI 3, George Stevens 1

At Mount Desert, Richard Hilliard scored a goal and assisted on another to lift Mount Desert Island past George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill.

Dan Lyons and Naniel Hilliard also scored for the 5-4 Trojans. Willy Ramano and Chad Grass each added an assist, and Max Blanford stopped six of 12 shots.

Blake Wessel scored on a Colin Tareila assist with 15 minutes left in the second half for the 5-2 Eagles. Mark Ensworth made six saves on 14 shots.

JV: MDI 4-0
