William Riley Jr., who was the head coach at the University of Massachusetts Lowell for 22 seasons, has rejoined Hockey East as a special assistant to Supervisor of Officials Brendan Sheehy.

Riley’s primary responsibility will be to review videotapes with on-ice officials and provide other counsel in helping the officials meet conference and NCAA expectations.

In his 22 years at Lowell, Riley compiled a record of 363-270-22, which included three NCAA Division II championships and a second-place finish in Hockey East in 1986-87, when his team earned 20 league wins and he was named Coach of the Year.
