PITTSFIELD – Vickery School, which serves SAD 53 pupils in second through fourth grades, has been awarded a Teamwork For Kids grant that will be used to establish an indoor sensory garden for special needs children.
Teamwork For Kids is a minigrant program through the Maine Support Network in cooperation with the state Department of Education.
SAD 53 received the $1,000 grant with an option to receive two additional $1,000 ripple grants over the next two years, according to Helen Gallagher of SAD 53.
A team will create a stimulating environment of movement and sound that will be used to help each pupil meet the requirements of the No Child Left Behind initiative.
Gallagher said the project is being developed and will be ready to use by January.
