Brooker helps Warriors sting Hornets

ASHLAND – Travis Brooker scored three goals to lead the Southern Aroostook Warriors to a 5-0 schoolboy soccer victory over the Ashland Hornets Wednesday.

Zack Austin added a goal and an assist and Jeff Boutilier made 17 saves as Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook improved to 11-1.

Evan McGary had the other goal with Robert Toothaker and Josh Branscombe notching assists.

Lucas Belanger and Kevin Baker had 15 saves for the 2-7-2 Hornets.

Washington Academy 4, Calais 2

At East Machias, Miguel Lopes scored three goals, including one on a penalty kick, as the Raiders held off the Blue Devils.

Minh Nguyen also scored for 7-1 WA. Peter Edwards and Jin Ho Ko each had an assist. Jeremy Gray made 19 saves on 25 shots.

Devon McPhee and Doug Connolly had a goal apiece for 5-5 Calais. Shawn McLean chipped in with an assist and Corey Johnston stopped 30 of 37 shots.

Woodland 5, Narraguagus 2

At Harrington, Ben Leighton scored three goals to lift Woodland past Narraguagus.

Adam Knowles added two goals for the 2-6 Dragons and Craig Moody made 10 saves on 12 shots.

Cory Worcester and Sy White both scored a goal for 1-6-1 Narraguagus. Josh Look stopped 10 of 15 shots.

Machias 9, Jonesport-Beals 0

At Machias, James McCarthy scored three goals to help push Machias to the win.

Matt Marshall had two goals for 9-0 Machias as Pat McDonald and Zach McNally each added a goal and an assist. Isaiah Roberts and Garrett Getchell both scored a goal. Mike Little and Chase Roberts each had two assists and Isaiah Roberts and James McCarthy combined to make seven saves on 10 shots.

Ben Ellis stopped 11 of 20 shots for 1-6 Jonesport-Beals.

Maranacook 2, MCI 0

At Pittsfield, Mitch Riley scored a goal halfway through the first half to give Maranacook the win.

Andrew Mack added a goal five minutes into the second half for 9-0-1 Maranacook and Tom Martinelli stopped seven of nine shots.

Tristan Goewey made three saves on 10 shots for 5-5 Maine Central Institute.

Girls soccer

Ashland 3, Southern Aroostook 0

At Ashland, Whitney Flint scored two goals, one in the first half and the other with seven seconds left in the second, to power the Hornets.

Mindy Long chipped in with a goal for 10-1 Ashland. Caitlin Sherman and Ashlee Peters each assisted on a Flint goal and Ashley Nemer made 15 saves on 18 shots.

Erin Caswell made 14 saves on 17 shots for the 8-3 Warriors of Dyer Brook.

GSA 2, Searsport 2 (2OT)

At Blue Hill, Brandi Winters scored off a Winslow Brokaw pass 7:32 into the second half to tie the game at 2-2 and it stayed that way through two overtimes as George Stevens Academy snapped Searsport’s winning streak at eight.

After Searsport took a 1-0 first-half lead on an unassisted goal from Nori Francis-Mezger, the Eagles equalized 3:20 into the second when Brokaw scored unassisted.

Francis-Mezger responded 12 seconds later when she took the kickoff down the field and scored unassisted.

Kayla Eaton made 18 saves on 29 shots for 2-4-3 GSA and April Pickering finished with seven saves on 12 shots for 8-0-1 Searsport.

Bucksport 2, Ellsworth 0

At Bucksport, Lindsey Gordon scored a goal in each half to power the Golden Bucks by the Eagles.

Brittni Adams assisted on the first goal and Gordon converted the second off a Terren Hall throw-in for the 5-1-1 Bucks. Katie Hurd made three saves on five shots.

For 3-4-2 Ellsworth, Catie Cravens made three saves on 10 shots.

Penquis 6, Dexter 1

At Milo, Erin Beasley scored two goals and assisted another to help lead Penquis to the win.

Kate Hamlin scored a goal and had three assists for 1-7-1 Penquis. Sam Ellis and Jessica Kahl each added a goal and Liza Comeau had an assist. Michelle Mulherin made no saves on three shots.

Sabrina Cote scored a second-half goal for 3-5 Dexter and Ashley Richardson made nine saves on 21 shots.

PVHS 4, Central 0

At Howland, Tiffany Brown scored two goals to help the Penobscot Valley Howlers improve to 8-1.

Kacy Foster added a goal and an assist for the Howlers and Kacey Plourde chipped in with a goal. Ashley Dawson recorded an assist and Jen Plourde made five saves on 11 shots.

For 3-4-1 Central of Corinth, Nicole Daniel made 14 saves on 31 shots.

Field hockey

Dexter 3, Foxcroft Academy 0

At Dover-Foxcroft, Anita Grant scored an unassisted goal in the first half to help lead Dexter to the victory.

Kristina Temple and Nicci Burton each added second-half goals for the 6-2-1 Tigers. Cristy McGowen stopped all 28 shots.

Ashley Smith made 16 saves on 19 shots for 5-5 Foxcroft Academy.

JV: Foxcroft 2-1

John Bapst 2, Bangor 1

At Bangor, Ali Dunn scored the game-winning goal off of an Erika Getchell assist with 11 minutes left to lead John Bapst to the win.

Megan Tilton scored an unassisted goal six minutes into the first half for the 7-1-1 Crusaders of Bangor and Meredith Atkinson made six saves on 10 shots.

Nicole Bureau scored six minutes into the second half on a penalty corner for 2-7 Bangor. Sarah Hanselman and Sarah Frisk combined to stop 11 of 15 shots.
