Extension offers online hay resource

ORONO – Do you have hay to sell? Many farmers around the state struggled to get dry hay produced this year. However, these last few weeks have been great, and barns hopefully will be filling up for the winter, said Rick Kersbergen of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension.

The Cooperative Extension coordinates a hay directory for farmers who want to sell hay and hay products. The directory, which is online at www.umaine.edu/livestock/hay.htm, helps livestock farmers who are searching for hay products find a local source.

Hay producers may post their products for sale on the Web site. Required details include contact information, size and type of hay package, potential for delivery and any quality factors such as analysis, if available, and certification for organic farmers.

To obtain more information, contact Kersbergen at the Waldo County Extension office at (800) 287-1426 or 342-5971.
