LINCOLNVILLE – High school teachers interested in learning how to incorporate local forest studies into their curriculum and sharing their information with other schools across the state are invited to register for training Oct. 20-22 at the Tanglewood 4-H Learning Center.

Two University of Maine forestry professors will teach soil and tree biology, and the Maine Forest Service will show the teachers how to use a forest inventory growth interactive Web page.

Don Sprangers from Washington Academy and Betty MacWilliams of Bonny Eagle High School piloted this project, and they and their students will lead the training sessions.

All teachers will receive tools, books and necessary supplies to set up plots on their school grounds, in an outdoor classroom or in a town forest.

The training is paid for by a $7,745 grant from Maine Project Learning Tree, a program of the Maine TREE Foundation, which is funded by the Aristotle Fund of the Maine Community Foundation.

Only 15 teachers may register for the program. For information or to register, call 626-7990.
