OLD TOWN – The city will hold its annual Riverfest community celebration Friday, Oct. 1, and Saturday, Oct. 2.
The event is held each year in conjunction with Old Town High School’s homecoming festivities and kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday with Old Town football hosting MDI.
Riverfest is sponsored by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department and is funded by local sponsors and businesses.
One of the weekend’s highlights will be the 10 a.m. Saturday parade, which already promises to have four local bands from Old Town and Brewer high schools, Milford’s Libby School, and the University of Maine.
The high school will have homecoming floats and local veterans groups and politicians will participate in the parade.
Other events will include a street dance Friday night followed by fireworks at 9:15 p.m.
Activities, including kayak demonstrations, rides on the river and music performed by several local groups, will take place at the park from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
All Riverfest events, unless noted in the program, are free and will be held at the Riverfront Park in downtown. In case of rain, events will be moved to the Old Town-Orono YMCA on Stillwater Avenue. A complete schedule of events Riverfest programs may be found at area businesses throughout Old Town.
