Rockport school closes after threat received

ROCKPORT – Camden Hills Regional High School was evacuated Thursday morning after an undisclosed threat was made against the facility.

Superintendent Pat Hopkins said the threat was received about 11:15 a.m.

“The nature of the threat was such that students and staff were evacuated from the building immediately,” she said in a written statement.

Students were taken by bus to another school where they were dismissed for the day.

Rockport police and fire departments, the Knox County Sheriff’s Department and state police assisted school officials with the evacuation and with a search of the facility. The grounds were opened between 4 and 8 p.m. to allow students and staff to retrieve their vehicles.

Sgt. Paul Pinkham of the Rockport Police Department said Thursday evening that no one was hurt and that no further information has been released about the incident.

The building was expected to remain closed Thursday evening with all activities in the building and on the grounds canceled.

Hopkins said school would open at 6 a.m. today.

School administrators and police “remain actively engaged in an investigation to determine the source[s] of these threats,” the superintendent reported.

Anyone with information about the threat is asked to contact Rockport police at 236-2026.
